In this 2 hour workshop I will focusing on the work of Jaak Panksepp and Sarah Peyton in the first hour to look at the difference between Anger on the Rage circuit of the brain versus Predatory Aggression on the Seeking Circuit of the brain. This workshop will introduce these two circuits and the difference between them in terms of their role in healthy human interactions and needs, the neurotransmitters connected to each and the correlating addictions that can appear when Anger is not healthily expressed.
Anger’s purpose is to protect us from when our resources are being threatened. It is a life serving force and vital in terms of creating clear boundaries and safety in the here and now. If it is suppressed and not expressed healthily it can be entangled with Predatory Aggression. This is attached to the Seeking circuit of the brain and offers addictive dopamine hits, and so can perpetuate cycles of persecutory/victim behaviour, as opposed to healthy connection to our needs in the here and now. The Drama Triangle will be introduced here to support this aspect.
In the second hour I will use embodied techniques, relating them directly to Polyvagal theory, to support you to enable clients to understand and connect with their Anger and express this safely and clearly.
