Menopause impacts 51% of the population and yet there is little to no research into the psychological and physiological health and wellbeing of menopausal people.

Workshop Details

Therapists and wellbeing practitioners can sometimes be unarmed and uninformed when it comes to clients’ experiences, as well as how your own menopause journey can influence your work. Collectively and individually, we need to be aware of the cultural and gender-bias limitations that we may unintentionally bring into our therapy practice.

So, how can we have these conversations in the therapy room and supervision?

The mere mention of menopause in the therapy room can evoke embarrassment, shame and confusion for both client and therapist. As therapists, we can offer our clients the psychological skills, awareness, and context to make sense of their experiences in ways that can shape the direction of therapy in new ways.

We’ll look at practical ways to frame menstrual cycle awareness and menopause through a counselling & psychotherapy lens that can better support therapist and client. We’ll take a relational approach to explore how clients may present in therapy with symptoms and experiences that overlap with the early stages of perimenopause, and beyond. We’ll also consider the implications for the therapist experiencing peri/menopause both personally and professionally.

Everyone is welcome. If you see people who identify as female, queer, trans and non-binary, are a couple’s therapist, or are likely to experience menopause yourself, then this workshop is for you.
