When a client has experienced ‘too much’ of a parents attention (whether intentionally good or not) and their relational patterns have become enmeshed it can be really difficult to know where their boundary ends and the others begins.
Our client might experience taking on all the responsibility for others, being in chronic care giving mode or they have unrealistic expectations of the other to take care of them. Often emotions run high, games can be played and distress can spill out. In this workshop you’ll learn about the important role of the therapist, to remain attuned, yet holding firm boundaries; to take in their clients unprocessed distress to hold, yet not be consumed by them.
You’ll learn the importance of the therapeutic frame and how to carefully navigate the complexities of the relational encounter to support your client to contain their strong emotions, hold themselves and learn about who they really are beneath their relational wounding.
