How come some clients arrive at your door wanting to be ‘fixed’ and given ‘tools for the toolbox’ whilst others want to be seen, heard and celebrated? How do you react to these needs? Have you ever felt that you are uncomfortable working with some clients and not able to explain why through analysing your relational dynamics in supervision?
Spiral Dynamics Integral (SDI) offers a refreshing perspective on these questions and others by explaining how each of us sees the world in the way we do. Using SDI, we can examine the ‘developmental altitude’ of ourselves and our clients and sharpen both our clinical practice and our self-understanding. If you’ve not heard of Spiral Dynamics Integral (SDI), don’t worry: it’s much better known in the USA than in Europe…
…so I’ll assume you know nothing about SDI and something about being a psychotherapist counsellor or coach. Therefore, in this workshop, I’ll be outlining SDI theory in easily-assimilable bite-sized chunks and applying it as an evaluation tool so that you can assess both your own developmental altitude, and that of your clients. This may well clarify whether you can/ are willing to meet a prospective client’s needs, and influence your treatment planning for beneficial outcomes. I’ll intersperse didactic material with opportunities to evaluate your own developmental altitude and reflect upon your professional practice. We’ll keep it light, make it about you and have fun.
You will come away with
- A basic knowledge of SDI
- Resources to extend and develop your SDI knowledge
- An understanding of your own developmental altitude, and with it, why you are attracted to some forms of therapy and less attracted to others.
- A sharpened understanding of cultural scripting.
