Working Creatively with Fairy Tales: The Frog King or Iron Henry Workshop with Jennifer Ramsay

The Frog King, aka ‘The Frog Prince’ and also ‘Iron Henry’. In this interactive workshop, we explore this fairy tale from the collection of the Brothers Grimm to see how the story resonates with us on a personal level. Stories have been with us since the very beginning of humanity when we gathered around the fire to listen to myths of creation to connect us with our inner selves, our clan and the universe. Stories have accompanied us through dark times, of war and plague and they are here to accompany us now, with their medicine, in this time of uncertainty. In this workshop:

• We will call upon the wisdom of this ancient fairy tale to guide us.
• We will consider how this story can be applied to work creatively with clients.
• We will investigate the rich symbology of the story and the archetypes.
• We will explore the different endings and discuss how they each resonate with us.

This workshop is experiential, and participants will be invited to explore the story in depth and actively engage in the activities. Paper and something to draw and write with are required. If there are enough volunteers, we will use techniques from psychodrama to explore the story and give voice to the different characters and symbols. If not, we will use other tools from the Story Arte creative toolbox like Gestalt therapy, expressive art therapy and journaling to reveal the treasures that lie within this fairy tale.
