The Schema-Focused Cognitive Therapy, developed by Young and colleagues (1990-1999), is a theoretical model and an innovative and articulated psychotherapeutic approach that combines widely demonstrated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques with elements derived from attachment theory, from Gestalt, from interpersonal and psychodynamic therapies in order to help patients with deep-rooted psychological problems. It seems is particularly useful in the treatment of patients with complex difficulties such as Personality Disorders, especially Borderline Personality Disorder. It has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of chronic anxiety and depression, eating disorders, couple problems, and in the prevention of relapses of substance use disorder. Some studies show that there are also positive effects with patients suffering from Avoidant Personality Disorder and Antisocial Personality Disorder, as well as with psychiatric pathologies defined as chronic.

Schema therapy is described by many psychologists and psychotherapists as a widely recommended new cognitive approach that has solid scientific evidence and works very well with many patients around the world.

The workshop aims to explore common elements between Schema Therapy and Transactional Analysis. A first glance to a “Schema Therapy manual”, for those who know Transactional Analysis, can suggest that some fundamental ideas have been “stolen”. The creator of Schema Therapy has always denied any direct connection with transactional analysis, in his theoretical approach. The workshop aims to look at Schema Therapy through similarities and differences, which may perhaps make new contributions to our clinical work, for those who are more familiar with Transactional Analytics practice.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learning Schema Therapy Approach. An overview of theory and practice
  • Improving our transactional analytic clinical practice through new tools and perspectives, from another clinical model
  • Enrich those who work with counseling and therapy with new theoretical and practical tools

Who is this Workshop appropriate for

  • Psychologists, counselors, psychotherapists, social workers, psychiatrists

How may this workshop impact your practice

  • New work strategies for clinical practice with people

How Schema Therapy Can Enhance Your Practice Workshop with Enrico Cappelletto

Presenter

Enrico Cappelletto

I’m Enrico Cappelletto, a clinical psychologist living and working in Denmark. I studied in Italy, completing a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, a Bachelor’s in Social Work, and a three-year specialization in counseling, with an integrated transactional analytical approach.

My work with foreigners in Denmark is an enriching experience that stimulates me to explore new theoretical contributions, new approaches, new challenges, in a multicultural environment.

Transactional analysis was my “first love” which I see today as a “frame” that guides my work and can lead people to new awareness in their life, with a simple and powerful language. But any new “tool” is welcome to promote people’s well-being.
