In spite of being considered an essential subdivision within the psyche, the Parent ego state is increasingly overlooked or misunderstood in our contemporary clinical approaches. As interest grows in better understanding the kinds of difficulties that result from contextual and social factors, it’s time to revisit and refresh our concepts anew.
This talk hopes to show how a substantially-revised notion of the Parent ego state is needed to account for certain kinds of difficulties. Weaving together illustrative clinical stories and theoretical engagement with the TA literature, the talk provides a starting point for a new way of thinking about the relationship between self and world.
This talk introduces some ideas from my recently published book Contextual Transactional Analysis: the inseparability of self and world.
