SCoPEd Competency Addressed

  • Competency 2.8B: Ability to devise and use a comprehensive risk assessment strategy

Workshop Description

This workshop is part of the SCoPEd Training series, designed to support practitioners in meeting the knowledge-based competencies outlined in the SCoPEd framework.

In this session, participants will delve into the key aspects of devising and using comprehensive risk assessment strategies. This vital competence is at the heart of ethical and professional counselling and psychotherapy practice, ensuring client welfare and enhancing the therapeutic process.

Through a structured presentation, interactive elements, and reflective activities, participants will explore the following:

  • What constitutes a comprehensive risk assessment strategy.
  • Practical approaches to devising and implementing risk assessment strategies across diverse practice environments.
  • The application of risk assessment at different stages and components of counselling work.
  • Considerations for effectively assessing risk.

This training is essential for practitioners seeking to refine their risk assessment skills and meet accreditation requirements under SCoPEd, as well as for supervisors and organisational leaders who oversee risk management.

Please note: suicide risk assessment will be covered comprehensively over future SCoPEd Training: 4.3.B – Ability to work with suicidal risk and the often complex nature of suicidal ideation and (or) other self-harming behaviours and associated ‘unconscious’, or ‘out of awareness’ processes and perceptions.

Who Should Attend

This workshop will benefit:

  • Counsellors and psychotherapists who need to evidence training for accreditation and SCoPEd requirements.
  • Practitioners aiming to refine their risk assessment practices.
  • Supervisors and organisational leaders responsible for risk management.
  • Trainers and educators supporting others to meet SCoPEd competencies.
