About this event
The mind-body disconnect; tools and strategies to create the bridge is an interactive and experiential workshop.
Disconnection from the body is a cultural problem. Off all the losses in our everyday life, this alienation is alarming because it separates us from the very root of our existence. With jobs that are degrading, routines that are automatic and environments that kill our senses, we lose the joy that arises from dynamic connection with the only living presence we will have all our lives: our body.
Separated from the experience of our bodies, we are detached from our aliveness, the experience of the natural world and from our most basic inner truth. This division creates a dissociative state, where our actions become no longer ruled by consciousness or by feelings, but are fueled by an unconscious urge to bridge the gap between the mind and the body at whatever cost.
Dissociation produces dangerously disconnected actions: senseless killings, drive-by shootings, women cosmetically creating their faces and bodies to fit the runway model norm, men pounding their flesh into submission to build a sense of power – often numbing their sensations and feelings. We are taught to control the body by the way of the mind, which is considered far superior. But the body has an intelligence whose mysteries the mind has yet to fathom. We read in books how to eat, how to make love, how much sleep to get and impose these practices on the body rather than listening from within. Without the body as a unifying figure of existence, we become fragmented.
To connect to the body is to connect to the earth, to be grounded and to have a foundation from which to build the rest in our life. This provides a place, boundaries, a context, stability and an anchor for our experiences. A strong foundation creates solidity. Our bodies are the solid form of our existence.
In this workshop we will look at different causes of disconnect between the mind and the body, then a variety of practical tools and strategies to bridge this separation.
