About this event

The Invisible Weight: Foundations of Eating Disorder Care for Dietitians Workshop with Dr Tala Abdallah

What does this workshop bring to the table?

It’s become clear to me how essential dietitians are in supporting clients struggling with food, body image, and disordered eating. They are often the first and sometimes the only professionals clients trust or visit. Yet many receive little to no training in how to recognise or respond to eating disorders. In a post-pandemic, comparison-driven, and diet culture–saturated world, dietitians are increasingly faced with clients who need more than a meal plan – they need sensitive, psychologically informed care.

This isn’t just a workshop. It’s a call to elevate the standard of care in dietetics and to empower a new generation of professionals to meet today’s mental health–influenced challenges.

Dr Tala Abdallah

Dr. Tala Abdallah is a UK-licensed Clinical Psychologist and a Lebanese-licensed Dietitian with over a decade of combined experience across psychology and nutrition. She holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, a Master’s in Health Psychology from University College London, and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Nutrition & Dietetics and Psychology from the American University of Beirut.

Tala’s journey began in Beirut, her hometown, where she first qualified as a Clinical Dietitian. Early in her career, she developed a deep interest in working holistically, approaching treatment with both a psychological and nutritional lens. This led her to pursue further training in psychology, where she became passionate about supporting people through a whole-person, evidence-based approach. Her clinical work is grounded in the understanding that mental and physical health are deeply connected, and she empowers clients with the tools and skills they need to navigate their own paths toward wellness.

During her clinical training in the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), Tala worked with adults and teenagers across a wide range of services, including general adult mental health, specialist eating disorder services, learning disabilities teams, and hospital-based care in oncology and reconstructive surgery.

She now practices between London and Beirut, specialising in eating disorders, body image, perfectionism, anxiety, and self-worth. Her clinical work spans both private practice and NHS services in the UK, where she has supported diverse populations across a range of settings.

Tala is also the founder of Ginger & Walnut, a practice rooted in the belief that true healing requires addressing both the gut and the mind. Through this platform, she blends her expertise in psychology and nutrition to make compassionate, evidence-based care more accessible, particularly within Arab and expat communities.

Her dual training enables her to address the psychological and nutritional dimensions of disordered eating with an integrated, personalised approach to care.

In addition to her clinical work, Tala is passionate about training and capacity building. She regularly delivers psychoeducational workshops for health professionals and community members in Lebanon, with a focus on bridging gaps in eating disorder awareness and enhancing treatment skills among dietitians and front-line providers.

Tala works with a culturally sensitive lens, recognising how a person’s background, identity, and life context shape their experience. As someone who has lived across cultures herself, she values creating a space where all parts of you feel seen, respected, and understood. She offers therapy in English, and also speaks Arabic and French.

She tailors therapy to meet the unique needs of each client, whether that’s understanding the deeper roots of persistent patterns, learning practical tools to manage current difficulties, or exploring how past experiences might be shaping current thoughts, emotions, and relationships.
