About this event
Join Julia for Sun-dance, an inspiring and transformative session that blends movement, meditation, and the freedom of self-expression. With a rich background in dance, community, and transpersonal psychotherapy, Julia creates a space for participants to reconnect with their bodies, release stress, and explore the healing power of dance.
Julia’s journey began in the vibrant, multicultural environment of an inner London school, where she discovered music from diverse cultures. Her passion for movement flourished in the 1980s rave scene, where she organised club nights that brought together live jam sessions and house music, offering a transcendent experience of connection and rhythm.
With over 25 years of experience as a transpersonal psychotherapist, Julia integrates her deep understanding of the body, community, and spirituality into her sessions. She is a certified teacher of Open Floor movement practice and Ecstatic Awakening Dance, and draws on these and her own movement practice, Flomotion Dance to create a unique dance movement experience of self-expression and discovery.
Sun-dance sessions include:
– Guided arrival and warm-ups to ease into movement and presence.
– Free-form dance to express your inner rhythm.
– Integration and the opportunity to settle into stillness.
This event welcomes everyone, regardless of experience or physical ability. Whether in person or online, Sun-dance offers a unique opportunity to move freely and connect deeply with yourself and others.
Julia has recently written a book about dance movement practice, available on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dance-Life-Ecstatic-Rhythms-Moving/dp/B0CYXYZFGC?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Julia Franks
Julia is a UKCP psychotherapist and supervisor, practising over the last 30 years. She has had a long term interest in the wisdom of the body and has been strongly influenced by Process Work (Arnold Mindell).
Conscious dance – dancing with awareness of breath and body – has been another long term interest, and Julia has been running embodied movement and groups for the last decade.
Julia recently published her book, Dance for Life, in which she tracks the role of dance in human evolution, how dance was lost and found again in the Western world, and she introduces readers to the world of conscious dance practices.
Alongside her therapy practice, Julia leads regular groups (both in person and online) in Open Floor movement practice and her own blend of conscious dance, Flomotion Dance.
