Have you worked with clients who feel stuck? Have you had times when you have felt stuck and not sure how best to manage your own process? Have you experienced moments when you have not known how to facilitate others who are in a stuck place? Often these experiences can be challenging for both client, who can feel they are not getting anywhere, and therapists, who can feel deskilled.
Workshop Description
It can be tempting for the therapist to start problem solving which can increase the frustration for both parties. However these moments of stuckness ( impasse) can give us a useful opportunity to understand its purpose in the clients internal system and what is necessary in order to move forward.
In this workshop we’ll explore what makes us get stuck (client and therapist), how and when to stay with the stuckness and how to work through it when appropriate. We will tough on Impasse theory from Transactional Analysis and I will use some illustrations from my own client work to consider techniques for impasse heightening and breakthrough.
You can learn to love the stuck places and see them as marks of progress rather than blocks.

Frances Townsend MSc TA Psych, CTA(P) UKCP Reg. Psychotherapist, PGDip Supervision, TSTA(P) is an internationally qualified Transactional Analysis Trainer and Supervisor with thirty years experience. She uses meditation and mindfulness in her work as well as other approaches such as EMDR and EFT.
Frances is an internationally recognized Transactional Analysis Trainer, Supervisor and Psychotherapist with more than 30 years experience. She is a tutor at The Berne Institute in Kegworth and has a private practice in rural Northamptonshire.
