InnerView Guidance would not be possible without its predecessors. The first chapter entitled “InnerView Landscapes” provides the historical perspective of how therapy has evolved over the decades. We review prominent clinical theories compared to the InnerView model. The contributions of psychodynamic or analytic theory, behaviour therapy, humanistic psychology, cognitive therapy, narrative therapy, positive psychology, and solution focused therapy are reviewed. The differences between protocol-driven and principle-driven approaches to therapeutic practice are discussed. The chapter describes what InnerView has gained from other clinical paradigms and how integrating the spiritual dimension leads to a new therapeutic landscape beyond traditional approaches.

Cedric M. Speyer, M.A., M.Ed., RP, is an author, Registered Psychotherapist, and presently a mentor to coaches, counsellors, and therapists. He pioneered E-counselling in Canada, overseeing 100K online cases before establishing InnerView Guidance International (IGI). The vision of IGI brings together the historically separate domains of mental health and spiritual awareness in a new synthesis for the helping professions.
