In this enlightening session, Katie Drescher, President of ICF Wisconsin, explores the profound role intuition plays in coaching supervision. Katie’s reflective and spacious approach creates a safe environment for participants to delve into how intuition can be integrated into supervision practices, emphasizing self-awareness and presence.

Katie begins by engaging the audience in a discussion about their interest in intuition and supervision, inviting them to reflect on how intuition shows up for them in coaching and supervision settings. Throughout the session, she encourages participants to see intuition as a valuable tool for both personal and professional growth. Katie highlights that intuition allows coaches and supervisors to deepen their connection with clients, increase self-awareness, and enhance decision-making processes by tapping into their inner wisdom.

One of the core models Katie presents is the concept of “use of self,” a foundational element in supervision where the supervisor’s self-awareness and personal intuition become a key tool. Drawing from Pam McLean’s model, Katie emphasizes the importance of quieting inner chatter, expanding the capacity to connect with others, and aligning oneself with a deeper sense of knowing. Intuition, she explains, involves tapping into bodily sensations, emotional awareness, and even deeper, subconscious insights to inform the supervisory relationship.

Katie also introduces Otto Scharmer’s “level four listening” or “presencing,” where the practitioner listens not only to the client but also to their own intuitive responses, creating a dynamic and reflective space for both to grow. This heightened awareness can lead to more impactful supervision experiences and accelerated personal development.

In describing different types of intuitive experiences, Katie categorizes them into four main “Clairs”:

  • Clairaudience: Hearing insights or messages internally.
  • Claircognizance: A deep, unexplainable knowing.
  • Clairvoyance: Visualizing answers or scenarios.
  • Clairsentience: Feeling energy or emotions from others, often through empathy.

Katie offers practical steps for nurturing intuition, such as staying hydrated, engaging in mindfulness practices, and journaling. These actions, combined with regular reflective practices like supervision or self-reflection, help develop one’s intuitive awareness and foster a deeper connection to inner wisdom.

Katie introduces a simple yet powerful model for accessing intuition in supervision, called the Triple-A Model:

  • Alignment: Pausing and aligning oneself with inner wisdom.
  • Awareness: Bringing awareness to what is arising from this alignment.
  • Action: Deciding on any necessary actions or responses based on that awareness.

Participants are invited to apply this model to real-life scenarios, exploring how intuition can unlock new perspectives and opportunities for growth in both their supervision practice and personal lives.

Throughout the session, Katie emphasizes the importance of maintaining healthy boundaries when accessing intuition, particularly for those who experience high levels of empathy. Grounding techniques, self-care, and pacing the exploration of intuition are highlighted as essential components for keeping intuition sustainable and effective

This session encourages coaches and supervisors to embrace their intuitive capacities, integrate them into their practices, and use them to create more dynamic, reflective, and effective supervision experiences.
