Every day in their practice, psychotherapists hear of the profound impact that shame has on the internal and interpersonal worlds of their clients, and of the havoc it can wreak on their client’s lives, and the contribution it makes to their client’s problems.
In this workshop Mark will present a number of models to help understand shame and its relationship to a number of psychological disorders and problems. He will draw on a range of therapeutic approaches and also discuss techniques, the therapeutic relationship and present guidance for how to provide effective psychotherapy for shame.

Mark is a UKCP registered psychotherapist, teaching and supervising transactional analyst and EMDR Europe accredited practitioner. He is passionate about integrating neuroscience into psychotherapy and in finding ways for therapists to make use of research findings in their practice. He is the author of Transactional Analysis: 100 Key Points and Techniques and Transactional Analysis for Depression: A step-by-step treatment manual. He has received two international awards for his research on the effectiveness of TA for depression and is a TEDx speaker. He has a private practice in central Manchester and is a senior lecturer in counselling and psychotherapy at the University of Salford.
