Most practitioners find it challenging to work within the original framework when supporting clients with ADHD. Traditional approaches may not fully address the unique needs of neurodivergent individuals.

The good news is that we don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Instead, we can learn to integrate psychology with an understanding of neurodivergence. By weaving neurodiversity-informed strategies into our original modalities, we can adapt our approaches without abandoning the familiar methods we rely on. This means building new tools and techniques to address the additional elements that significantly impact neurodivergent individuals—such as sensory sensitivities, task initiation challenges, or difficulty with structure—and systematically managing them. With these adjustments, we can create a more inclusive therapeutic process that better supports neurodivergent clients, helping them thrive within their unique framework.

The training series is designed to provide a deeper understanding of the ADHD Treatment Pyramid and its practical application in therapeutic settings. This framework places particular emphasis on the neurodivergent aspects of ADHD, empowering practitioners to enrich and adapt their treatment approaches for each client’s unique needs. By integrating the pyramid into their methods, practitioners can develop more holistic and effective strategies for supporting ADHD clients.

The ADHD Treatment Pyramid consists of 12 distinct layers, each addressing a crucial aspect of the therapeutic journey. These layers are not meant to be approached in a strict, linear sequence. Instead, the framework is flexible, allowing practitioners to move between layers based on the immediate needs of their clients. For instance, within a single session, a therapist might explore multiple layers, such as discussing sensory overwhelm and strategies for sensory management. This could then lead to addressing masking behaviors, followed by emotional overwhelm and techniques for emotional regulation. Each layer interconnects, creating a comprehensive structure that supports growth and balance for the client.

Through this comprehensive approach, the training series is designed to equip practitioners with the essential tools, strategies, and knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of ADHD treatment with confidence. By understanding the unique challenges faced by individuals with ADHD, practitioners will be better prepared to ensure their clients feel truly understood, supported, and empowered at every stage of their journey toward improved well-being.
