Whenever we move into a different culture, organisation or profession, we begin to learn the language and values of the new and dominant group. In that process how do we integrate our own value systems and personal identity?
The Acculturation Model (John Berry 1980) offers a simple way of understanding the overlay or intersection of our personal lives and professional roles. In the process of acculturating we can make rapid and automatic judgements, or we can use our subjective experience in a thoughtful and considered way helping us to continually grow and develop.
In this workshop we will look at our personal and professional values and use the acculturation framework to reflect on ourselves and our personal and professional identity.
