This workshop offers the opportunity to explore how psychosocial trauma and disintegration impact mindsight, insight and foresight. These are features of the cognitive brain, which hosts our capacity to think, interpret lived experiences, learn and project outcomes throughout the life cycle, beginning in childhood. In workshops 4 and 5 we learned that ancestry is important and prepares us for the life it anticipates we will live. However, life experiences that ancestry will not have anticipated are equally important, and a key offering in this workshop is a sound insight into how adverse life events (ALEs) beyond childhood may impact the ability to learn and solve complex problems in ordinary life. We will analyse two case studies that involve the arrest of six-year-old children in the State of Florida, USA, to help us to grasp the implications of misinterpreting and mishandling the manifestation of psychosocial trauma and neuropsychosocial disintegration in higher mental processes.

Participants will gain insight into:

  • Neurobiology of ALEs & Psychological Trauma in Higher Mental Processes – Perception V Sensation.
  • Psychosocial Developmental Demand in Focus – Integrating Industriousness to Promote Competence (the antithesis of incompetence and inferiority in dis-integration).
  • Introduction to Psychological SPEARs for Well-being – Correcting the stories.

Who is This Workshop Appropriate For?

  • Featuring theoretical insights alongside case studies, this workshop holds a specific appeal for trauma researchers, therapists, clinicians, as well as lay individuals exploring their own traumas.

How May This Workshop Impact Your Practice?

  • Promising an exploration of the neurobiology of the psychosocial, this is a “cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural synthesis of neurobiology, attachment and trauma theory, spirituality, and epigenetics. Woven through passionate prose is an appreciation of the centrality of storytelling, testimony, and bearing witness in the lives of human beings in groups and communities. Here is a giant step forward for the emergent field of psychosocial studies” with a special appeal for clinicians and well-being practitioners employing neurobiology of the psychosocial and narratives to improve outcomes within therapeutic relationships.

This is one of a series of 12 workshops based on Dr Maduro’s recently published work on Neuropsychosocial Integration in which she explores the incidence of psychosocial trauma in ordinary life as it persists across generations.
