EMDR, initially developed in the late 1980s, helps clients integrate past disturbing experiences using Adaptive Information Programming. It is a structured therapy encouraging brief focus on memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements). This is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. EMDR is an extensively researched, effective method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. By focusing directly on the effects of the memory the client does not necessarily have to disclose content.

It can be a very useful adjunct to your therapy practice, and you can use it alongside other models of therapy.

Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes showing it to be a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences.

In this workshop we will cover the basic steps involved in the “Safe Space” sequence which helps clients to build anchors to regulate their experience. This can be very helpful if the client gets emotionally overwhelmed and helps them get their thinking back online.

We will look at the steps involved in the structured process and there will be practical examples, demonstrations and case studies along with the theory and associated neuroscience.
