Recent years have seen a paradigm shift in the field of mental health, in relation to how we understand personality and psychopathology. The categorical models of different ‘personality types’ most of us are familiar with are being discarded and gradually replaced with evidence-based models which have greater specificity and accuracy, and crucially, support an individualised and tailored approach to therapy.
In this workshop, Mark will be presenting the ‘Alternative dimensional model of personality’ (DSM-5) and the five factor model, together with some of the recent developments in our understanding of the structure and dynamics of mental health. Mark will also be presenting practice recommendations for targeted and individualised interventions to support change at the level of personality traits and processes which contribute towards the development and maintenance of a number of mental health problems.
