Using stories from the NHS front line during the pandemic, we explore how The Window of Tolerance model has informed and supported the staff using it.

The Window of Tolerance is a model that describes how, in the zone of optimal arousal (Window of Tolerance), we can function well and think clearly. Outside that window are two other zones (Hyperarousal and Hypoaraousal) and in these we have greater difficulty coping with the stresses and pressures we are faced with.

In this workshop, Jude will describe her work with NHS staff during the pandemic and how the Window of Tolerance has enabled them to become more aware of their own process and stresses. She gives insight into what they have said about the theory and how they have translated it into practice, enabling them to begin to develop coping strategies and to work towards being able to say when things are not OK and ask for help and recognise what they have personally experienced.

This workshop may be of special interest to those who work in organisations and have an organisational role. The Window of Tolerance is a useful tool to apply with any staff group. It is also highly useful on a personal level to see how you are coping during these difficult times.
