About this event
Have you ever asked yourself the question, what actually IS conversion therapy? Many therapists associate conversion therapy with radical practices, religious camps and/or extreme violence. In reality, conversion therapy can happen without us even realising it and this can have an incredibly damaging psychological impact on LGBTQ clients (and the wider LGBTQ community).
This workshop de-bunks the myths of what conversion therapy is in the current UK specific context.
We will explore:
- The definition(s) of conversion therapy
- What ‘conversion’ practices look like
- The damaging effects of conversion therapy
- How to support survivors
This is an informative workshop that aims to educate participants on what conversion therapy actually is, and how it avoid these practices in our work.
