About this event

The Mind Movement: Integrating Body, Breath & Movement in Therapy Book Launch with Lorna Evans

Join Lorna Evans in conversation with John for an engaging and thought provoking exploration of The Mind Movement, a new publication from Karnac Books that brings together body, breath, and movement as essential elements of therapeutic practice.

This session invites clinicians to reflect on how somatic understanding can be woven into their work with clients. Lorna draws on psychoanalytic thinking while offering practical, accessible tools that support therapeutic change. The Mind Movement project began as a wider social movement, encouraging people to take compassionate accountability for their mental health and to view movement not as performance, but as a pathway to wellbeing.

In this conversation, we will explore how the book

  • Bridges psychoanalytic theory with practical, somatic tools for clinicians
  • Equips practitioners with the knowledge and language to explain and apply body based approaches
  • Stimulates new conversations around mental health, movement, and embodied therapeutic practice

Lorna illuminates the clinical process of working with the body, breath, and movement in ways that help deepen awareness, regulate the nervous system, and cultivate a strong mind body connection. Her work reminds practitioners of the value of neuroscience, the autonomic nervous system, and the vagus nerve in supporting clients to understand their experience more fully.

Clinicians will leave with greater confidence to integrate these approaches creatively in both in person and online settings.

You can explore more of Lorna’s work and ongoing conversations about movement and mental health on her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@themindmovementUK

As part of the book launch, attendees will also receive a 20 percent discount on The Mind Movement from Karnac Publishing using the code: MINDMOVEMENT20

Learning Objective Participants Can Expect From This Event

  • Gain an understanding of the science behind how trauma is stored in the body, with a particular focus on the fascia — the body’s connective tissue. Explore how emotional stress affects the fascia, and examine the resulting impact on both mental and physical health.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the role of breath in regulating the nervous system, and explore how breathing techniques can be used as effective tools to help clients achieve emotional and physiological balance.
  • Understand the importance of safety when working with the body. Lorna will focus on yoga and share how she applies a trauma-informed approach in her work with clients, explaining both her methods and the reasons behind them.
