About this event
Depression is often characterised by a sense of stuckness, heaviness and feeling empty with a ‘lack of’ running through every aspect of life. Lack of energy, motivation, joy, peace, connection. Vital life force energy at a cellular level can compromise a persons capacity to be fully in world and feel alive.
Accompanying this there is often ‘too much of’ within the mind – rumination, self-criticism, worrying and perpetuating feelings of helplessness. This can leave a person spiralling between hyper and hypo arousal in the window of tolerance and never quite feeling connected and relaxed within themselves, with others and with life.
With often the route cause being in early attachment relationships and trauma, talking through depression often only gets us so far. With the ‘symptoms’ occurring within the body, at a cellular level, with protector parts taking shape to reinforce a persons sense of self, a body-based approach can enhance the internal shift from stuckness to flowing.
Research shows how breath work and somatic interventions can help to free up energy, move it through the body and bring an internal experience of compassion and fulfilment.
In this workshop we’ll explore how depression manifests in the body through energy, posture, gesture, sensation and the breath and how working with these aspects of a person can offer new opportunities to your client. The techniques you’ll learn are simple & safe and you’ll be ready to bring them straight into your practice.
This is an experiential workshop where the learning is by doing so you too can experience the benefits of breath work and somatic interventions.
