About this event

Breathwork and Mental Health 101 Workshop with Sarah Hunt

Your breath is a direct line of communication to your Nervous System. So while we can’t simply decide with our conscious mind to ‘calm down’ or ‘feel safe’, we can breathe our way there. This is why breathing exercises can be one of the most impactful tools to support a person’s therapy journey and mental health.

We are all in this crazy messy world together. And so we all experience hard times, painful experiences and/or traumatic events. The mind then creates a certain meaning of both that painful event as well as of ourselves and the world around us. While we can shift this meaning through therapy and reflection, sometimes the body can stay stuck in that past reality of pain, anxiety and fear. Breathwork is a way to speak directly to the body, and help it become part of the inner transformation process.

This session will give an overview of what we mean by ‘Breathwork’ and the science behind how Breathwork works to regulate the Nervous System and influence mental health. It will also discuss ways to incorporate breathing practices into therapeutic sessions as well as ways to give clients ‘breathing exercises’ as homework to create new levels of emotional resilience.
