Shame and guilt can wreak havoc in relationships, families, constellations. Much therapy ends up being avoidant of deep-seated shame and guilt, simply because it’s really hard to deal with and involves really deep levels of introspection. Over the 18 years of our relationship, we have dug very deeply into our familial guilt and shame. What we thought was a strong similarity – our strict religious upbringing – became an enormous barrier to intimate connection that we have had to face up to as individuals, as practitioners, and as a couple.
