Participants in this workshop will be encouraged to explore social injuries and insecurities that influence social psychology, collective cultures and group dynamics. Insight will be drawn from the historical events of the Holocaust and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, both of which continue to hold significance in our collective consciousness. This exploration will help participants to make sense of collective trauma as a source of social inflammation that - in the absence of careful and intentional interruption - persists and informs patterns of relationships among and within people groups across generations. The extensive research surrounding these significant events of adversity will be drawn upon to help participants to appreciate collective trauma from a neurobiological perspective as well.
Participants will gain insight into:
- The neurobiology of collective trauma & social psychology
- Pseudo-speciation & marginalization as social injuries
- Transgenerational collective trauma – The Holocaust in case study
- Transmission of collective trauma – The Transatlantic Slave Trade and the continuing experience of black populations of the Americas in case study
- Psychosocial Developmental Demand in Focus – Integrating Generativity to Promote Care (the Antithesis of Stagnation and Self-absorption in Dis-Integration)
- Introduction to Actional SPEARs for integration & Well-being - Correcting the stories
