The physical body holds on to the past. So much of our posture, the way we breathe and move, not to mention our internal biochemistry is created by our past experiences and the identity we have embodied through those experiences.

When we want to change…or heal…or grow...we must not only shift the way we think about the past. We must also understand what parts of our past self have become ‘embodied’. Then we can harness our physiology to move in the direction of the change we want to make.

In this session we will look at how the body gets stuck in the past and can continue to reinforce past emotional patterns. Most importantly, we will explore how to harness our physical body’s capacity to let go of the past and come along with us on our mental health journey, including specific postural, movement and breathing practices to facilitate this process.

Learning Objective Participants Can Expect From This Event

  • An understanding of how our bodies express our past experiences and perceived identity on a physical level & how this can be a block to change
  • An exploration of what it might mean to have a ‘habit’ of being ourselves physically, biochemically and neurologically
  • A discussion of what we can do on a practical level to break these physiological patterns in the body and shift our embodied selves in the direction we want to grow
